Facebook Connect on Web2Ireland

conor 5th of January 2009 by conor

We’ve just turned-on support for Facebook Connect on this blog. It enables you to comment here using your Facebook credentials and also to optionally send your comments from here to your Facebook profile.

Facebook Connect

To make use of it, simply login to Facebook using the Widget in the right-hand sidebar. Then when you comment on a post, you’ll be doing so as your Facebook identity.

Whilst we remain big fans of standards like OpenID, the simple fact remains that the implementations are non-intuitive, the plugins are flakey and the uptake has been tiny. Connect is instant portable identity for a much bigger demographic.

We were hugely impressed with Dave Morin’s presentation of Connect at Le Web. I hope we can get him over to Ireland at some stage to tell us more. Any chance Ryan will get him over for FOWA Dublin?

Full instructions on enabling Facebook Connect on WordPress Blogs are here.

Gravatar Support

conor 29th of November 2008 by conor

We’ve just switched over to using Gravatar everywhere for author images (commenters were already supported). So if you write posts on Web2Ireland or leave comments, sign-up on Gravatar and then we can all see your ugly mug on everything you do here.

EI on the move

conor 26th of September 2008 by conor

Enterprise Ireland has finally done the move and consolidated all their Dublin offices into The Plaza at East Point Business Park. If you don’t know where that is, just head towards Howth.

Trackbacks now working

conor 14th of March 2007 by conor

I don’t know how many of you noticed but trackbacks into and out of web2ireland have been broken for a long time. After much fiddling and reinstalling and with some sterling help from Monika in hosting365, they are now functional again.

So the world now knows when web2ireland is talking about them!

Since this was a clean install, I may have missed some bits from the old one. Let me know in the comments if you spot any niggles.

Web2Ireland upgraded to WordPress 2.1.1

conor 24th of February 2007 by conor

Please report any problems as comments here. Authors, I have turned on the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin so you can easily add tags to posts using the entry field below the main post field. I have also removed the SB plug-in as it was never used here and I’ve seen reports of breakage with this version of WP.
